Tooth Whitening

Like hair and skin, teeth vary in colour. Some are yellower or darker then others, even when they are quite healthy. Teeth tend to get darker as people get older. Whitening your smile is one of the least expensive and least invasive ways of enhancing your appearance.

Tooth colour can be very effectively lightened with specialist dental products containing hydrogen peroxide (bleach). Tooth bleaching is completely safe; it improves the appearance without removing any of the natural tooth substance.

Recommended techniques:

  1. Home System - this is the gold standard. For well over a decade this procedure has set the whitening standard. The Dentist will take impressions of your teeth and then create customised trays that fit your mouth perfectly. We will then send you home with syringes of carbamide peroxide gel, and simple instructions. You will wear the trays for 15-30 minutes at a time, until the desired result is achieved (for 1 week). The advantages of this is that you are completely in control, and that you can top up the whitening whenever you so desire.
  2. In Surgery Bleaching -This involves using a much stronger solution of carbamide peroxide 38% vs. 10-15% for home bleaching. This can be accelerated by using heat or light. This is an excellent way of starting the process and should be supported by home bleaching for maximum effect.
